Amaterase New Single “Houou” Release Interview

VG: Vkei-Guide is a website that guides Japan through Visual kei. Could you share with us a place in Japan you would like to recommend?

Daishi: The cherry blossoms at Chidorigafuchi that bloom around the moat that surround the Imperial palace. Also, the sunrise from Mt.Fuji, although it’s a bit far from the airport.

Akira: Village forests in the rural areas. Places where you can get a glimpse of wild animals in Japan and, mountain streams.

VG: Amaterase values the Japanese spirit. What makes you feel proud to be Japanese?

Daishi: Culture of dashi *(used for cooking). Also, the culture that emphasizes on unity.

Akira: Japanese breakfast. When I am savoring the nameko miso soup, natto, grilled fish, seasoned nori(seaweed) and, Japanese omelette.

VG: “Houou” is the second release since Amaterase came back to the Visual kei scene in 2017.

The CD jacket design seems to have a similar image with the band logo. Is there a particular image you have with the jacket design?

Daishi: “Houou”, which means phoenix, is the first song we revealed at our comeback live after 10 years blank.

Akira: Same as Daishi, it images the revival of Amaterase.

VG: The new release includes arranged versions of the song “Houou”, similar to the bands previous release “Nayuta”. It seems a rare form since we do not see bands that release CD in that way. What made you to release in that way?

Daishi: We wanted to challenge something that other rock bands don’t do.

If the melody of the song is good, arrangements can deliver diverse impressions among the song. Also, we want a wide range of music listeners to know our music.

Akira: It is a good way to know there are different impressions among the song.

VG: Please explain and, share with us your recommendation point of each track included in “Houou”.

Daishi: The release “Houou” images the Phoenix (meaning revival).

Houou – Oriental and, melodic orchestra speed metal.

Houou Guitar instrument Ver – A vocal-less version. You can savor the melodious crying guitar.

Houou Reimei Version – Amaterase Remei is the name of the band during our acoustic live.

We used jambe for percussion in this version. Enjoy and compare with the original version.

Houou Classic Version – I especially took time to arrange all instrument parts. To perform my songs in orchestra form and be the conductor of it is my dream.

Houou Chorus Competition Version – In Japan, there are Chorus competitions in Junior high schools nationwide. This version has the melodious piano making most of the vocal quartet.

I would like children worldwide to sing this song, so after the release, I am thinking of free distribution of the musical score.

Akira: Each version is different and, I recommend listening to all of them from start to end.

VG: Amongst the “Houou” arranged versions, which is your favorite and why?

Daishi: All [laugh]. Though, especially the Chorus competition version?

Akira: As the vocalist, the ones with vocal are diverse in the way I sing. So, I would like people to listen to the difference.

VG: The music video of “Houou ” has beautiful cherry blossoms that is one of things that symbolize Japan. Is there a part in the music video you especially want to share?

Daishi: The part where our camera team and I made a special effects approach during the free time of my individual shot.

Akira: Of course the cherry blossoms. Also, the photo shoot studio that had the Japanese taste that matched the song image.

VG: Dacco guest appears in the music video. What led you to have them in the music video?

Daishi: They are like our close friends and, we offered for their appearance at the backstage of a venue in one of the events we appeared.

Akira: We appreciate Dacco for accepting our offer.

VG: Next month Amaterase will also be releasing mini album “Tenchi kenran”. Could you share with us a glimpse of it?

Daishi: We put Amaterase’s beauty of past and present, vibrancy and serenity all in this mini album!

Akira: We will also have a music video for this mini album. Check it out!

VG: Recently, Amaterase’s live are very diverse from lives done in a bus, lives with a storyline and, acoustic live. What are the highlights of Amaterase’s live?

Daishi: I believe…, attraction that no other rock band has.

Akira: The explosive and, at the same time healing atmosphere of our live.

And, I guess Daishi’s fun character?

VG: Lastly, please give a message to your fans.

Daishi: After we release the CD in Japan, we are thinking of a digital distribution for our overseas fans!!

大祀：皇居の千鳥ヶ淵の満開の桜

空港から遠いけど富士山のご来光。

晃：田舎の里山。日本の生き物が見れるところ。

渓流など。

VG: 和の心を大切にしている天照ですが、日本人に生まれてよかったなと思う瞬間はどんなときですか。

大祀：料理のダシ文化。

良くも悪くも調和を重んじる文化。

晃：和の朝食

なめこのみそ汁、納豆、焼き魚、味のり、卵のセットを食している時。

VG: 2017年の復活後リリース第2弾となる「鳳凰」ですが、CDジャケットが天照のロゴにも似た雰囲気ですね。このジャケットはどのようなイメージでデザインされましたか。

大祀：鳳凰は10年ぶりの復活祭で初披露した曲なので鳳凰→不死鳥からイメージしました。

晃：同じく復活のイメージ。

VG: 前回のリリースである「那由他」同様に、1曲で様々なアレンジをされていますね。他のバンドにはない珍しい形態ですが、このようなリリースにしようと思ったきっかけは何かありましたか。

大祀：他のROCKバンドがやってない事にチャレンジしていきたいから。

メロディが良ければ色々なarrangeで違った印象を届けられるから。

より幅広い層のリスナーに知ってもらいたいから。

晃：一曲でも様々な感じ方があるということを知っていただきたいと思いました。

VG: それぞれの楽曲の簡単な説明と、お勧めポイントを教えてください。

大祀: 復活→不死鳥をイメージした組曲になっております。

vocal抜きの泣きの歌うguitarをお楽しみ下さい。

天照黎明とは天照のacoustic live活動時の名称です。

percussionのjambeも叩きましたので原曲との違いもお楽しみに♪

鳳凰Classic Ver.

各パートをこだわり抜いてarrangeしました。

いつか自分の曲をorchestraで演奏し、僕が指揮者をやるのが夢です。

鳳凰合唱コンクールVer.

日本の中学校は合唱コンクールというものが存在します。

絡み合う混声4部合唱と歌を邪魔せずに奏でるmelodiousなピアノの旋律もこだわりました。

世界中の子供達に歌ってほしいのでRELEASEが落ちついたら音と楽譜をフリーで配信しますね^_^

晃：全く違うものになっているので、とにかく全曲イヤホン、ヘッドホンで聴いていただきたい。

VG: 様々にアレンジされた「鳳凰」の中で一番のお気に入りはどれですか。お気に入りポイントも教えてください。

大祀：全部です笑笑

強いて言えば合宿コンクールVer.かな?

晃：歌い手としてはアコースティックの違う歌い回しを聴いて欲しいです。

VG: 「鳳凰」のMVでは日本を象徴するような綺麗な桜が印象的ですが、MVのこだわりポイントを教えてください。

大祀：個人ショットの自由時間に思いついた特撮的アプローチをカメラteamと一緒に作っていけた所です。

晃：桜ももちろんですが鳳凰にマッチした和のスタジオでの撮影場面。

VG: そのMVにはDaccoのお二人が友情出演されていますが、どのような経緯で出演されることになったのでしょうか。

大祀：普段から仲良しなのですが、ライブハウスの楽屋でofferしました。

晃：快く引き受けてくれて感謝です。

VG: 来月にはミニアルバム「天地絢爛」を立て続けにリリースされるそうですが、少しだけ内容を教えてください。

大祀:天照の新旧〜動と静、天照の魅力を余す所無くパッケージしました

晃:これまたMVもあるので必見です。

VG: 天照といえば、最近では、バスライブやストーリー仕立てのライブ、アコースティックライブなど、とても興味深いライブが多い印象ですが、天照のライブの見所はどんなところでしょうか。

大祀：一度見たら忘れられない他のROCKバンドには無い魅力があると信じてま…

晃：激しい爆発力と癒しの空間。

それと大祀の実は天然なキャラですかね。

VG: それでは最後にファンの皆さんにメッセージをお願いします。

大祀：日本でのCDをRELEASEした後に海外の皆さんにも聞いてもらえる様にデジタル配信もするつもりです‼︎
