FEST VAINQUEUR New Album “BREAK!!” E-mail Interview

Q1: Vkei-Guide is a web magazine that guides Japan through Visual-kei to the people living overseas. First of all, please tell me your name, part in the band and a place where you recommend for the readers to visit in Japan.

HAL: I am vocalist, HAL. Please visit Dōtonbori and do take a photo with the billboard of glico!

GAKU: I am guitarist, GAKU. I recommend the Aquarium called Kaiyukan.

I’LL: I am guitarist, I’LL. If it is in autumn, I would say the scenery of coloured leaves in Kyoto.

HIRO: I am bassist, HIRO. I recommend the Universal Studio Japan in Osaka and the Takoyaki Museum close-by.

KAZI: I am drummer, KAZI. I would suggest Shinsekai! New World!

Q2: FEST VAINQUEUR creates various types of music from pop tune to hard rock. What kind of music genre are you recently listening to?

HAL: Oldies hard rock!

GAKU: Healing music with acoustic guitar.

I’LL: Guitar instrumental music.

HIRO: Anime songs.

KAZI: Loud rock!

Q3: About your 3^rd album ｢BREAK!!｣, we heard that the meanings of this title are, to break the wall of genres with your wide musical range, to break the conventional style and to break through furthermore this year. So this album contains a variety of your musical aspects including the approach of the lyrics. Please tell us your favourite track and the reason?

HAL: I want to say it’s everything, but my favourite is ｢HIGH!!!!｣! Feel high with this song!

GAKU: ｢ピエロ (Pierrot)｣. Its guitar solo is my favourite.

I’LL: ｢THE NEXUS｣. The riff part is breaking through.

HIRO: ｢ENVIOUS｣. Aggressively breaking through from the intro.

KAZI: ｢The Emperor’s New Clothes｣! Crazy!

Q4: This time Яyo (ex-girugamesh) is joining with synth-tracking. Please tell us how this collaboration came up?

HIRO: I was a fan of girugamesh so I was listening to their CDs as well as going to their shows; also my previous band used to perform with them in some joint gigs. As their musicality was similar to FEST VAINQUEUR’s, we offered Яyo san if he can collaborate with us.

Q5: Inspired by the title of the track ｢ENVIOUS｣ – from the new album, please pick up one of the members’ abilities that you are envious of.

HAL: I’LL’s handsomeness!

GAKU: HIRO’s deep sleep!

I’LL: KAZI’s carrying voice.

HIRO: HAL’s high tone voice! I want to sing a lot!

KAZI: GAKU’s…I mean height!

Q6: In the lyrics of ｢バタフライエフェクト (Butterfly Effect)｣, there is a word ｢限界 (limit)｣. Do you have any experiences that you were able to go beyond your limit to achieve something?

HAL: Double unders on skipping ropes!

KAZI: Rolling double bass drums! (dum-dum)

Q7: In the lyrics of ｢ALEXANDRITE｣, the word ｢物語の主人公 (main character of the story)｣ appears. Please tell us your favourite main character from any story, manga, film or drama you have ever seen?

HAL: Naruto Uzumaki from NARUTO. It is touching that the Ninja dropout changes the history!

GAKU: Light Yagami from DEATH NOTE. I empathised with his own way of justice.

I’LL: Domon Kasshu from Mobile Fighter G Gundam, where he is hot-blooded.

HIRO: Luffy from ONE PIECE, where he is honest and caring of his friends.

KAZI: Eikichi Onizuka from GTO. Great unorthodox teacher, indeed he was.

Q8: Finally, please send a message to the overseas readers.

HAL: I am hoping to perform shows overseas one day so please come and see us then! Please visit Japan too! Also to Osaka!

GAKU: Do the Rock!!

I’LL: We will go overseas for gigs in the future. I hope to see you there.

HIRO: I really want to hold gigs abroad as we have not done that yet! If we go closer to your place, please come to see us!

KAZI: There are no walls in music! I believe that music can cross the border. We have no walls!

Q1: Vkei-Guideはヴィジュアル系を通して海外に日本をガイドするというコンセプトのウェブマガジンです。まずはお名前とパートと外国人にお勧めしたい日本のスポットを教えてください。

HAL: ヴォーカルのHALです。道頓堀のグリコの前で是非写真撮ってください！

GAKU: ギターのGAKUです。海遊館という水族館にぜひ。

I’LL: ギターのI’LLです。秋なら京都の紅葉ですね。

HIRO: ベースのHIROです。オススメは大阪のユニバーサルスタジオジャパン&近くの建物にあるたこ焼きミュージアムです。

KAZI: ドラムのKAZIです。オススメは新世界かな！ニューワールド！

Q2: ポップな曲からハードな曲まで様々な楽曲があるFEST VANQUEURですが、最近よく聴く音楽のジャンルは何でしょうか。

HAL: 古めのハードロック！

GAKU: アコースティックギターの癒し系音楽です。

I’LL: ギターインストです。

HIRO: アニソンです。

KAZI: ラウドロック！

Q3: 3rdアルバム「BREAK!!」ですが、振り幅の広い音楽性で楽曲のジャンルの壁を壊す、決まりきった型を壊す、そして今年さらにブレイクするという意味を込めたとのことで、歌詞も含めてバラエティーに富んだアルバムになっていますが、その中でも一番のお気に入りの曲とそのお勧めポイントを教えてください。

HAL: 全部と言いたいですが、HIGH!!!です！ハイな気分になれると思います！

GAKU: ピエロです。ギターソロがお気に入り。

I’LL: THE NEXUSです。リフがブレイクしています。

HIRO: ENVIOUSです。イントロから攻めてブレイクしています。

Q4: 今回、元ギルガメッシュのЯyoさんがシンセトラッキングで参加されているそうですが、そのきっかけを教えてください。

HIRO: 僕はギルガメッシュさんの事が好きで音源を聞いたりライブも見に行ったりしたこともあり、過去には前バンドのときに対バンもさせてもらっていました。FEST VAINQUEURの音楽性と近いものもあったので、Яyoさんに是非やってもらいたいと思いお話をしました。

Q5: アルバムの中の「ENVIOUS」という曲タイトルにちなんで、メンバーのここに嫉妬する、うらやましいと思う能力を教えてください。

HAL: I’LLのイケメンさ！

GAKU: HIROの睡眠の深さ！

I’LL: KAZIの声のヌケ。

HIRO: HALのハイトーンボイス！歌を沢山歌いたい！

KAZI: GAKUの…身長！

Q6: 「バタフライエフェクト」の中に「限界」という言葉が出てきますが、今まで限界と思ったけど思ってたよりできたという経験はありますか。

HAL: 縄跳びの二重飛び！

KAZI: 2バス連打！ダムダム

Q7: 「ALEXANDRITE」の歌詞に「物語の主人公」という言葉が出てきますが、今まで見たり読んだりしてきた物語、漫画、映画やドラマで一番好きな主人公を教えてください。

HAL: NARUTOのうずまきナルト。落ちこぼれ忍者が歴史を変えていくところは泣けますね！

GAKU: DEATH NOTEの夜神月。彼なりの正義にすごく共感できた。

I’LL: 機動武闘伝Gガンダムのドモン・カッシュ。熱いところ。

HIRO: ONE PIECE ルフィ。真っ直ぐ仲間思いなところ。

KAZI: GTO鬼塚英吉 型破りな先生やったね彼は。

Q8: 最後に海外の皆さんにメッセージをお願いします。

HAL: いつか海外でライブしたいと思ってるんでその時はぜひ来てください！そして日本にも遊びに来てね！大阪にもおいでね！

GAKU: Do the Rock！！

I’LL: いつか海外にもライブしに行きます。その時はよろしくね。

HIRO: 海外でのライブがまだなので、是非やりたいと思っています！近くにライブしに来たら遊びに来てください！

KAZI: 音楽に壁はないよ！音楽は国境を越えられると信じています。We have no walls!
