VG: Vkei-Guide is a web magazine that guides Japan through Visual-kei to the people living overseas. First of all, please introduce yourself with your name, part in the band and a place where you recommend for the readers to visit in Japan.

TAKA: I am the vocalist, TAKA. To begin with, you should go up to Himeji Castle. It’s the best castle in Japan.

MASATO: I am the guitarist, MASATO. Kyoto has many historical sights and you can enjoy the city for all four seasons. Especially, I would like to push Fushimi Inari Taisha and it is a fairly popular place.

RYO: I am the bassist, RYO. My recommendation is Asakusa.

MASAKI: I am MASAKI, the drummer in defspiral. My recommended spot is Mount Fuji.

VG: Do you have anything you are getting into recently?

TAKA: Camera. Instagram. Bike.

MASATO: Going to the museums.

RYO: Exploring delicious Ramen.

MASAKI: Camping. (Only been twice so far, though.)

VG: Regarding your new album ｢TO THE GALAXY｣, the first impression received was as if it was featuring your darker side, compared to your past style. Is there any story behind led you to change your conventional images?

TAKA: I feel like we just expressed the original core part of our band straightforwardly.

VG: Please describe the concept of the CD cover art.

MASATO: Made an impact by using members’ photos. The cubic polygons in the background are the images of cosmic space and constellation. Monochrome tone was only applied as colouring may not suit the image of the sound of this album.

VG: This time you are dressed all in black in the latest artist photo. Please could you state your favourite part of your outfit?

TAKA: The silhouette and transparent effect on my shirt. Also the outline of my special tailcoat-ish jacket, especially the back.

MASATO: The slashed and lace-up details on my arm part. Lace-up enamel boots. I’m in sexy mode this time.

RYO: The skirt worn for the first time in my life. And the bizarre mask. I will strike with my powerful eyes alone.

MASAKI: The inner of my top. Its impression of silhouette can be transformed by the level of adjustment of zipper.

VG: Please pick up one track from your new album and tell us your endorsement.

TAKA: Of course everything is recommended, but personally I think the 4th track ｢MOBIUS｣ shows our new approach. It’s defspiral’s relaxed style rock for grown-ups.

MASATO: ｢PULSE｣ – which we also created a MV. It signifies the glamorousness we wanted to release in this album. I think it will also pump the audience up at live shows.

RYO: ｢AURORA｣. Because it is vigorous.

MASAKI: ｢LABYRINTH｣. I wish you to feel its boomy deep bass sound.

VG:  What is the base theme of the MV you have shot for ｢PULSE｣?

TAKA: The theme is desire and awakening.

VG: The nation-wide tour will kick off from the end of November and it will be the longest tour in defspiral’s history. That means there may be many cities you will perform for the first time. Please appeal how your band is like to the audience who will come to see you for their first time.

TAKA: Our band is pretty casual so you can simply enjoy. Let’s sing, dance and have fun together with us.

VG: ｢METEOR｣ means a meteorite as well as a shooting star. If a meteorite falls out of sky and causes the earth to end, what do you want to be doing at the last moment?

TAKA: I would be having some luscious wine with my friends who lived together until then.

MASATO: I would like to be spending a happy smiling time having some tasty dishes with my friends.

RYO: I will stuff myself with food.

MASAKI: I want to be having a dream until the last moment.

VG: Finally, please send a message to the overseas readers.

TAKA: I appreciate the current era that we can share various things beyond the distances. Please try defspiral’s sound by all means. Let’s see each other one day at our live show.

MASATO: I would be glad if you are interested. I am looking forward to seeing you some day.

RYO: Let’s promise to see you in the future.

MASAKI: We will go overseas if there are any chances! When it happens, please come and see us!

VG: Vkei-Guideはヴィジュアル系を通して海外に日本をガイドするというコンセプトのウェブマガジンです。まずはお名前とパートと外国人にお勧めしたい日本のスポットを教えてください。

TAKA: ボーカルのTAKAです。先ずは姫路城に上っておきましょう。日本一のお城です。

MASATO: GuitarのMASATOです。京都は歴史ある名所が沢山あって、四季折々楽しめます。中でも伏見稲荷神社はかなり人気の場所でおすすめですよ。

RYO: BassのRYOです。おすすめは浅草。

MASAKI: defspiralのドラマーのMASAKIです。お勧めスポットは富士山

VG: 最近何かハマっているものがあれば教えて下さい。

TAKA: カメラ。インスタ。バイク。

MASATO: 美術展に行く事。

RYO: 美味いラーメン探す

MASAKI: キャンプ （まだ二回しか行けてないですが）

VG: 今回リリースされる「TO THE GALAXY」ですが、今までのdefspiralのイメージとは異なり、ダークサイドが前面に出された作品という印象を受けましたが、このイメージチェンジに至った背景を教えてください。

TAKA: 元々持っているバンドのコアな部分を素直に出したという感覚です。

VG: CDジャケットのコンセプトを教えてください。

MASATO: メンバー写真を使いインパクトのあるものにする事。

背面にある立方体のポリゴンは、宇宙空間や星座をイメージ。

色を付けると音のイメージに影響すると思ったので、黒と白しか使わなかった。

VG: 今回衣装がオールブラックですが、それぞれ自分の衣装のお気に入りポイントを教えてください。

TAKA: シャツのシルエットと透け具合。それとジャケットの特殊な燕尾服風のシルエット。特に背面。

MASATO: 腕の切り込みと編み込み。エナメルの編み込みブーツ。セクシー路線です。

RYO: 人生初のスカートと怪しいマスク。目ヂカラだけで攻めます。

MASAKI: 上着のインナー。ファスナーが付いていて開け具合でシルエットが変わる。

VG: 今回のアルバムから、個人的にお勧めの曲とそのお勧めポイントを教えてください。

TAKA: どれもオススメですが、自分的にバンドととして新しいと思うのはM4のMOBIUS。defspiral的程良く力の抜けた大人のロック。

MASATO: MVにもなった「PULSE」今作出したかった妖艶さが色濃くでた曲。ライブでも盛り上がると思う。

RYO: AURORA。勢いあるので。

MASAKI: LABYRINTH。ブリブリしてる低音を感じてほしい。

VG: アルバム曲の中から「PULSE」のMVを撮影されたそうですが、どのようなテーマをもとに撮影されましたか。

TAKA: テーマは欲望と覚醒。

VG: 11月末スタートのツアーがdefspiral史上最大規模のツアーということで、初めて行く場所も多いと思いますが、初めてdefspiralを見る人のために、どういうバンドかアピールをお願いします。

TAKA: 肩肘張らずに楽しめるバンドだと思います。一緒に歌い踊り楽しみましょう。

VG:「METEOR」には流星だけでなく隕石という意味もありますが、もし隕石が落ちてきて、地球が終わるとなったら、最期の瞬間に何をしていたいですか。

TAKA: 共に生きた仲間と美味しいワインでも頂きましょう。

MASATO: 美味いものでも食べながら仲間と笑って過ごしたい。

RYO: メシをたらふく食う。

MASAKI: 最後まで夢を描いていたい。

VG: 最後に海外の皆さんにメッセージをお願いします。

TAKA: 距離を超えて様々なものを共有できる時代を嬉しく思います。是非defspiralの音に触れてみてください。そしていつかライブでお会いしましょう。
