LIVE REPORT | umbrella one-man “FUMIDASU” 2017/03/14 Zirco Tokyo

March 14. Rain.

It may be obvious to say “Unfortunately it’s such a bad weather…” from the day’s weather but it may not always be the case. This day, umbrella held their 7th anniversary one-man at Zirco Tokyo and it had seemed even the rain had welcomed their anniversary as the rain fell gently over the streets of Shinjuku. While in the recent years many bands followed the fate of disbandment, umbrella whom will be going on to their 8th year, wasted no time to stop and as their one-man title says, they were engaged to go on to their one-man holding up their will to step further towards their future.

「生憎の雨で・・」と言いたいところだが、それは違う。Zirco Tokyoにてumbrellaが結成7年を迎えてワンマンを行い、雨こそ彼等を祝福するかのように降っている様だった。近年多くのバンドが立て続けに解散の道を辿った中、これから8年目を迎えるumbrellaはその活動を止める事なく、まさに今回のワンマン・タイトル通り、未来へと「踏み出す」志を背負い、このワンマンに挑んだのだ。）

As the black curtain was projected with the band’s logo, the mirror ball rotated as it threw glittering light onto the stage, and as the SE “Singing in the rain” flowed the venue, it created a classical and composed atmosphere. When the curtains were drawn, the members came out one by one onto the stage and as vocalist Yui appeared and took his guitar in hand, the venue lit up at once with drummer Sho’s drum spark, the atmosphere of the live venue changing at once to live mode. From the beginning, “ We are umbrella! This is our first step to the future!!” Yui shouted as those words led to their procession towards the future, the first song, “Skyfish” heated up the venue from start with its heaviness and vibrant sound.

(黒いカーテンにumbrellaのロゴが映し出されるとミラーボールが回転しキラキラと場内を照らしては、SEの「Singing in the rain」がクラシカルでしっとりとした雰囲気を醸し出していた。ステージが露わになり、メンバーが続々登場。最後に姿を現したボーカル唯が、自身のギターを手に取ると、照明が一気に明るくなり将のドラムが弾け、雰囲気は一変、ライブモードに切り替わった。そんな幕開けに唯が「umbrellaです！みんなしっかりとこの一歩を観ていてください！！」と、これから踏み出す未来へと誘う言葉にヘビィで躍動感ある1曲目「スカイフィッシュ」が最初から場内を揺らした。)

As both parties on the stage and the floor progressed into jumps and bends as everyone enjoyed themselves, the next song “Yoru no curtain” added towel swinging to the choreography. Then, amidst the red tainted stage with sharp green laser lights beaming across the venue in “Kazamidori”, HAL’s rumbling bass pulsed through the venue, escalating the hefty atmosphere.

Though the main melody took an up-tempo turn, the pace gradually stepped up in heaviness, as the next “Tenohira Drop” blended an oriental sound into the heaviness that lingered as fans pumped their fists energetically. Then as “Monochrome” started, guitarist Shu and HAL shouted rhythmically “OUI!OUI!OUI!OUI!” letting the chase of the stage and floor develop in the heated up venue.

(ジャンプ、折りたたみと激しくステージとフロア共に楽しさを感じさせるそんな中、続く「ヨルノカーテン」では更にタオルを回す展開が加わった。照明の深紅とステージ後方から放たれた緑の鋭いレイザーライトが次の「風見鶏」を彩る中、春のゴリゴリのベースが場内を響かせ激しさをエスカレートさせた。サビがアップテンポながらもそのペースと音は激しさを増し、続いた「掌ドロップ」ではオリエンタルテイストな音に乗せ、フロアは拳を突き上げた。「モノクローム」が始まるとギター柊と春の「オイ、オイ、オイ、オイ！」のシャウトで更に場内は熱を帯びフロアとの掛け合いの反復が繰り広げられた。)

As the venue lights dimmed, Yui wasted no time and started his emcee. “Good evening, we are umbrella! Thanks for coming today. It’s umbrella’s 7th birthday and we will continue to move forward in our 8^th year as well. It is not how many times fans come and see us, it is because of fans we have the courage to move forward. This next song is a song that let me move on in life.”

(一旦暗転すると、唯は休む事なくMCに入った。「こんばんはー！umbrellaです！本日はきてくれて有難うございます！umbrella、7歳になりました。そして8歳になっても、これからも前へ進んで行きたいと思います。（ファンの）皆さんが何回観に来ているとか関係なく、皆さんがいるお陰で勇気をもって進んで行けます。次の曲は僕が一歩を踏み込む事ができた曲です。」)

As “Keihaku na hito” started, Yui’s strong voice was blended into the melody, and in the main part of the song, his voice became soaked with wistfulness as it enveloped the venue. The next, “Binetsu” started with Shu’s arpeggio, and Yui’s gentle voice flowed quietly, while gradually, the lights changed from a warm orange to red. Under the shifting lights HAL’s chorus overlapped with the vocal and the song soon turned emotional, gradually enveloping the venue. From the array of gentle songs, in “Kouzounikki” which started with the strum of the guitar, Yui shouted for fists and fans pumped their fist up rhythmically as the stage became more lively.

「軽薄ナヒト」が演奏されると、唯の力強い声がメロディに織り込まれ、サビでは彼らしい切なさを染み込ませた歌声を場内に響かせた。続いた「微熱」では柊のアルペジオから始まり、唯の優しい歌声が切々と流れては、徐々に照明が温かなオレンジから赤へと変わりゆく中、春のハモりが重なり、情感溢れ、強さが増して行った。フェイドアウトと共に、次の「レクイエム」では眩いライトが場内を照らし、柔らかな霧雨が降り注ぐ様に唯の歌声が優しく場内を包んだ。そんな一連の聴かせる曲達から、激しく掻き鳴らせるギターで始まった「構造日記」では、唯がフロアに「拳ください！」と呼びかけ、終始ファンは拳をリズム良く上げ盛り上がりを見せた。

After a short emcee, Yui introduced the next song as a “good old song” which was the song from their 2^nd mini album “Monochrome”, the uplifting “Taiyou kousen”. In it, yellow lights showered the stage, and an up-tempo song was played. Then, as Sho’s light drumming started the next song “Door”, it was impressive to see the members in smiles as they gazed at the fans waving their hands amidst the main melody. From the heartwarming scene, Yui shouted, raising his spirit “Let us not regret this moment!” as “ Hi [jou] kaidan” shifted the atmosphere from one of serenity to chaos, firing up the floor and ending in a storm of head banging. Throughout the live, Yui’s shout released his words of appeal to the fans as they took in his words. As the colorful and psychedelic “Labo” followed, deep red lights flickered to the heavy “Red signal day”, and as the main set came to a climax, Yui raised his hand up pointing his finger up signaling their next song as “Witch?” as he heated up the floor shouting, “Tokyo!! Last song!!! Let’s step up together to the next level!!!” The live fired up to its max as the main set came to an end.

短いMCを挟み、唯が「懐かしい曲をやります。」と、演奏されたのが２ndミニアルバム「モノクローム」に収録されている明るい「太陽光線」だった。題名通り、黄色い照明がステージを射し、アップテンポな曲が演奏された。将の軽やかなドラムから「Door」が続くと、ファンがサビで手を仰ぐその情景にメンバーが楽しそうに眺めているのが印象的だった。そんな情景から、テンションを上げて「悔いのない様に行こうぜ！！」と唯が叫ぶと「非「情」階段」では穏やかさが一変、扇動する様にフロアは煽られ、ヘドバンの嵐が展開された。終始、唯のシャウトからはファンに訴えかける言葉が吐き出されては、受け止める様にファンもそれに応えた。カラフルでサイケデリックな「Labo」がそれに続くと、畳みかけて深紅のライトが明滅したヘヴィな「レッドシグナルディ」が演奏され、本編最後に辿ると「東京―！！ラストー！！！全員でその調子で踏み出そう！！！」と唯が熱を会場に注ぐと上を指しジャンプの合図を入れ、「Witch?」で会場は熱量マックスで本編を締めくくった。

Before the encore, the screen on the right side of the floor projected their upcoming release and events. A new release, “Frontier” on May 17, fan meeting in June, and umbrella sponsored tour, as well as their new costume were revealed, the floor erupting in cheers at the news. Then as the members came back on stage, each member spoke a word as HAL took the main emcee. Each of them expressed sincere appreciation to the fans, and talked about their outlook to the future, each in their own style. From their words, a glimpse of the band’s positive will toward their future was seen.

（アンコールが始まる前に、会場の上手側にあったスクリーンにバンドの今後の発表が映し出された。5月17日に新曲「Frontier」の発売、6月のファンミーティング、主催ツアー、そして新衣装を纏ったアーティストフォトが披露され、フロアから歓喜の声が上がった。

メンバーが間もなくステージに戻ると、春がメインで進行を務めつつ、各メンバーから一言が語られた。それぞれの言葉でファンへ感謝しつつ、これからの想いなどを語り、歩み続ける前向きな姿勢が彼等の言葉から垣間見る事ができた。）

As their words seemed to have been conveyed, their new song, “Frontier” was played. From the drum to the guitar, then the bass woven in the melody as the vocal came last to blend in to the uplifting melody as bright lights enveloped the venue. Before they came to the very last song, Yui emceed for the last time. “Thank you for today’s Tokyo one-man. For a Kansai band, to do a one-man in Tokyo is a trial. Please continue to support us. Because we would like to send all of you to a bigger place than we are in now, we will become bigger! “ As he voiced his purpose, the powerful and uplifting “Alain” was played as their last song of the day, and “FUMIDASU” capped off their 7^th year to move on to their new start.

（そんな彼等の言葉を送り出す様に新曲の「Frontier」が披露された。ドラムからギターへそして、ベースの音が織り込まれると最後にボーカルの声が重なりこれからへと導く旋律を紡ぎ、眩いライトがステージを包んだ。そしてこの日を締めくくる前に「東京ワンマン有難うございます。関西のバンドにとって東京でのワンマンは試練です。これからもついてきてください。もっと大きなところにお連れしたいので、もっともっと大きくなります！よろしく！」と唯が決意を言葉にすると、最後の最後に強く、前向きな「アラン」が演奏され、「踏出」は7年目の締めくくりをしつつ新たな道へのスタートを切ったのだ。）

For umbrella, whom will start their 8^th year, it will definitely be a road to the “Frontier”. Stepping into the unexplored, reaching out to the top with the words of challenge the members each spoke, expectations are high of how umbrella will break new ground in the road ahead.

（8年目を迎えるumbrellaにとってこれからは正に「Frontier」への旅だ。未開の地へ踏み入れ、メンバーそれぞれが口にした前向きな言葉と共に更に高みを目指し、今後umbrellaがどのように未来を切り開いて行くかを期待したい。）
