In April, a month where many things begin in Japan, Kaya held his first one-man tour final of 2017, entitled “Dream after Dream,” at Shinjuku ReNY. The stage this day was very simple, with only a bouquet stand with purple and white flowers, set in the center of the stage. The simplicity of the stage expressed Kaya’s feelings toward this live. Inviting guests Kei Okubo of URBANGARDE, and Yume Suzuki, who composed Kaya’s recent release “Yumeji”, Kaya’s feelings were delivered through the set of 19 songs performed on the day.

(新たな始まりを告げるそんな4月にKayaの2017年最初のワンマンツアーファイナル「Dream after Dream」が新宿ReNYで行われた。本公演のステージは至ってシンプルで、唯一飾ってあったのはステージ中央に紫と白を基調としたブーケのみだった。そこにはKayaの今回の公演に向けての「想い」があった。アーバンギャルドからおおくぼけい、そして最新リリースの「夢路」の作曲を手掛けた鈴木結女をゲストとして迎え、その「想い」は合計19曲を通して届けられた。)

When the curtain rolled up, guest Kei Okubo appeared at the left of the stage weaving an opening instrumental, and gradually streaks of blue light raining from above with the sound of the rain enveloping the venue. Kaya appeared on stage attired in a soft violet dress as he took his position. As “Hydrangea” started the show, Kaya’s voice gently layered with the melancholic melody. His voice gradually rose to a powerful note as the venue was released from tranquility with a shower of passion. As the song dyed the stage dark as it ended, the next “Marionette” started with a dramatic piano intro with colorful lights dancing in the venue as the stage came alive at once. Kaya’s gestures also added elegance and as he aimed the mic towards the fans fervent calls from the floor erupted in a frenzy.

(幕が上がると、上手側にゲストのおおくぼけいがインストルメンタルを紡ぎ出し、やがて青い照明が雨の様に降り注ぎ雨音のSEが響き渡った頃、Kayaが薄紫色のドレスを纏いゆっくりとステージに現れた。ポジションにつくと、「Hydrangea」がワンマンの幕開けとなり最初からもの悲し気な旋律にKayaの声が優しく重なった。しかし、その声はやがて静けさから強く解き放つ様に情念を含ませ場内に振りしきった。曲が土に還るようにステージが仄暗さに染められると、ドラマチックなピアノイントロから「Marionette」が始まると舞踊会の様に照明がカラフルに踊り出し、ステージが一瞬にして花開いた。Kayaのジェスチャーも華やかさを纏い、マイクをフロアに向けてはフロアからは熱狂的なKayaコールがさく裂した。)

In the venue that was already bathed in the atmosphere of Kaya’s distinct world, Kaya gave his first emcee where he briefly talked about the stage of the day. Unlike his usual stage, decorated to meet the atmosphere of his world, this day the set was simple. Regarding it, Kaya said he wanted to concentrate and express his love for the songs. After the short emcee, Kaya fired up the audience as he yelled, “ Give me your voices!!” as “ Nouvelle Mariee ” resumed the live. With the dancers Yui and dich, who participated in Kaya’s tour, joining in, with colorful lights swinging to the dance tune, the crowd had feathery fans swaying in the air as the venue turned into a sea of fans. Applause erupted from the floor and as it died down, streaks of lights showered in sync with the beat as “Ophelia” was played. Kaya stood in front of the mic as his hands gestured, picking up the words released from his mouth as the deep emotions within the song seemed to pervade, leaving a strong impression like a scar. From the dim stage, green lights flickered in the next “BABYLON”, the chase of the stage and floor left an impression as, “Masquerade” that followed had a jazzy feel with Kaya taking turns dancing with each dancer as they were hit by the spotlight. Yui and dich took turns and danced as their photos were projected on the screen in the back. Right after the dancer’s solo, in “Kasha – shining flowers –”, Kaya fueled up the floor, and in answer the fans pumped their fists and jumped to the lifting beat. Throughout the energetic yet elegant song, Kaya had a smile, savoring the song with the fans.

(早くもKayaワールドに染まった場内で、KayaのMCが早速入り、短くも今回のステージについて語られた。いつもの装飾をあしらったステージとは打って変わって、シンプルだという事に対して、「今日は歌を大事にしたい」という想いがあったからだと伝えた。そんな語りから、「Kayaに声を頂戴―！！！」とライブ再開を煽り立て、「Nouvelle Mariee」が始まった。ツアーを同行したダンサーの二人、Yuiとdichが加わり、彩豊かなライトの下ダンスチューンに乗せ、羽根扇子を羽ばたかせながら、場内は扇子の海と化した。フロアからは拍手が鳴り、そして止んだ頃に光の筋が同期のビートと連動し、「Ophelia」へと続いた。Kayaはマイクスタンドから離れる事なく、声から零れる感情を掬う様に手の動きはその重き感情を場内に放ち、最後まで歌は印象の爪痕を残した。薄暗いステージから緑の照明が明滅し、振りの多い「BABYLON」ではKayaとファンの掛け合いが印象に残り、続いた「Masquerade」ではジャジーな音にダンサー二人と交互にダンスし、その延長でダンサーソロが始まり、Yuiとdichそれぞれの写真がステージ背面に映し出されながらそれぞれダンスを披露するという流れだった。この後に「Kasha – shining flowers –」では、Kayaがフロアに火を点ける様に煽り立てた。それに応える様、ファンも拳を上げ軽快なビートにのせ跳んだりと、終始エネルギッシュ且つ流麗さをも併せもったこの曲にKayaも笑顔になっていた。)

From the energetic sets of songs, Kaya started his emcee. He talked about incidents where he forgot his belongings at places, joking about it as the venue erupted in laughter. From that, Kaya spoke on a serious note, “This year I would like to be positive. Although I may have lost some things, I believe it all comes back in different forms” as he thanked the crowd with appreciation for continuing to be his fan. After a few announcements, Kaya resumed the live with a cover of a chanson classic, “Padam padam,” with guest Kei Okubo at the piano once again. With the mercy of the “sound of fate” known as “padam,” the song had a beautiful yet frail feeling which gave a peek at a different side of Kaya. The next song, “Ai no sanka -Remix-” is also a chanson classic, but remixed into Kaya’s style. The digitally driven and uplifting tune was fun to the point it made the fans smile. As Kaya sang the songs happily, the two dancers showed up as “Chocolat” took the venue to a sweet and fun atmosphere. From it, numerous feathery fans swayed in the air in the next dance tune, “Epicurean.” A mirror ball rotated, glittering the stage in the uplifting “Transmigration” as Kaya paid attention to the fans, frequently pointing the mic towards them as they responded with cheers and shouts which had Kaya in an ear to ear grin.

(そんなエネルギッシュな曲達から、MCに入りKaya節がトークでもさく裂。ツアー中での失せ物エピソードで場内が笑いに包まれつつも、そんなエピソードから「今年はポジティブで行きたいと思います。失くしてしまったけど、それがいつか他の形で還ってくると思います。」とファンの存在を示し、感謝を述べた。その後にいくつかの告知から、おおくぼけいがステージに再登場すると、シャンソンを歌うと披露したのが、次の「Padam padam」だった。運命の音を言葉に翻弄される様が、美しく且つどこか儚げでいつものKayaとは違う顔を覗かせた。続いた「愛の讃歌-Remix-」もまたシャンソンだが、Kayaリミックスバージョンであり、デジタルサウンドを駆使したポップで思わず笑顔になるそんな曲に仕上がっていた。楽しそうに歌い上げたその後に、ダンサーが再登場し、更に甘く楽しい時間へ誘う「ショコラ」へと続いた。そこから羽根扇子が再び羽ばたいたダンスチューンの「Epicurean」から、ミラーボールが煌めく前向きな「Transmigration」へとKayaは常にフロアに注意を払い、度々マイクをファンに向けては呼応する声援に笑顔を絶やさなかった。)

“ I am having a wonderful time!” said Kaya with a satisfied smile, to which fans responded with cheers. Right after, in his emcee, Kaya talked about his past. “I started singing when I was three years old, and since then I have been chasing my dream. There were times where I had many obstacles to stand up against but now I am in my 11^th year as a solo artist. I am very thankful to have all of you here today. I really appreciate it. Right now, I’ve stopped being so particular after all these years of singing. I feel that simply singing can get me to the place I want to be.”

(「楽しい♪」とKayaがご機嫌な笑みで言うと、ファンもそれに応える様に声援をステージに送った。そんな後に、MCでは自らの過去を振り返った。「3歳から歌を始めて、夢を追いかけてきて、色々葛藤あったけど、ソロ歌手になり早いもので11年目。みんな、今日かけつけてくれてありがとう。感謝しています。今となっては、長くやってきてこだわりがなくなって、歌だけあれば大丈夫、何処までも行ける。」)

As the piano intro started “Sink”, the song seemed to embrace many deep emotions within yet it had a vibrancy that gradually could be felt as the song was played. Once again, Kaya expressed sincere gratitude towards the fans, and how he felt happy to sing on this stage, and that no matter how old we are we can walk this dream together. Before Kaya sang the last song he introduced it. “I wrote“Yumeji” with love and gratitude towards everything in life.” It was a song that perfectly capped off the main set as it was impressive to see Kaya sing the song very gently, as if it were one he adored.

(「Sink」がピアノのイントロから始まると、色々な想いがひしめいているかの様に曲は重さを伴いながらも、徐々に心底から這い上がる強さを感じさせた一曲だった。再びMCを挟み、ファンが応援してくれて、ここで歌っていて良かったと思えた事、これから先、年を重ねても、これからもみんなで一緒に歩けたらなとKayaは伝えると、「全てに感謝と愛を込めてこの曲を書きました。「夢路」。」と本編を締めくくるに相応しく、明るく前向きで、愛しそうに歌い上げるKayaの姿が印象的だった。)

As the encore started, Kaya showed up with the other guest of the day, Yume Suzuki. They gave a brief emcee to say they are underway in creating a new song after “Yumeji”, and right after 2 songs were played. “Frosty Rain,” where the two vocalists sang in harmony with their smooth and firm voices, and the bright “Glitter Arch” a signature song for fans as they enjoyed the music.

(アンコールが始まると、Kayaの後にこの日のもう一人のゲスト鈴木結女がステージに現れ、短いMCを挟み、「夢路」に続く第二弾音源を制作中との事を伝えると、デュエットが始まった。優しくも強さを持ち合わせた息の合った二人のハモりが印象的な「Frosty Rain」とKayaファンにとってはお馴染みの軽快な「Glitter Arch」が披露され会場は盛り上がりをみせた。)

After the announcements of the two guests, Kaya once again introduced Yui and dich, who were with him throughout the tour. Then finally, Kaya made a simple emcee. “I would really want to sing “Yumeji” to my past self and not forget to feel gratitude. My road to my dream will continue so please keep on walking with me.” As he ended his emotional emcee and walked to leave the stage, the ending SE abruptly stopped as lights were on Kaya. Grinning, Kaya rewound himself back to the center of the stage and, fueled the fans up for another encore. “You know I don’t finish my shows quietly, RIGHT?” The fans erupted in cheers as Kaya shouted, “Let it all out !!” and proceeded to “Dance Macabre”.

With the techno beat and Kaya’s aggressive vocals, the venue fired up once again and adding fuel to the floor, “Addict”, the song that best represents Addicts (what Kaya fans are called), lit up the final fire to the venue. Kaya worked the fans into a frenzy, as he put his aggressiveness to the limit as the floor ended up in moshing and thrashing to close the first one-man final of 2017.

(ゲスト二人の告知が発表され、Kayaから今回のツアーに同行したYuiとdichの紹介をし、最後に、「「夢路」は過去の自分に歌ってあげたい、感謝を忘れずに。私の夢の路はまだまだ続きますのでこれからも宜しくね。」と簡潔に締めくくり退場するかと見せかけて、Kayaならではのフェイントで流れていた音が止まり、巻き戻されるかのようにKayaはステージ中央に戻り、いつものKaya節で「このままじゃあ、終わらないわよね～」とフロアに投げかけるとファンから熱狂的なレスポンスと共に「弾けて行こうかー！！」と「Dance Macabre」が始まり、テクノビートとKayaのアグレッシブな歌声で場内は一気に熱を帯びた。とどめには、Addict（Kayaファンの呼び名）の為の曲と言っても過言ではない「Addict」でKayaは激しさを全面に、容赦なくファンを煽り立て、フロアでは逆ダイやモッシュが展開され、この日マックスの熱を場内に注ぎ、今年初のワンマンツアーのファイナルを終えた。)

For Kaya the theme was the “song” itself. The 19 songs that were performed today are the footsteps of his past that linked dream to dream and designed his life. Kaya’s journey will continue on to the future.
